  I rented a place from Swansboro Port Realty with my friend upon returning from deployment. We had never rented a place on our own before and was excited about the experience. The two bedroom townhouse that we rented was very dirty upon arriving. The appliances were very old and outdated however we weren't picky. The service was great and never had many complaints other than a few minor things. A year went by and I was ending my lease and getting out of the military and moving back to my home state. I had always kept the place spotless and returned the townhouse in better condition than when I had received it. However the kitchen had old vinyl and a small stain at the stove started to appear. It was normal wear and tear when using vinyl. On the day of my move out inspection I was informed personally that everything was in good order and I would be getting my full security deposit back in the mail of $700.00. A week went by and no check. I called the office and was informed that I would receive it no later than one month after my move out date. Nearly three and a half weeks after my move out I received a email stating that the whole kitchen floor needed to be replaced and they stated that the stain was not there when I moved in. It was very obvious that the stain was normal wear and tear with a light color old vinyl floor. They ended up keeping my full security deposit. After 200$ of supplies and $530 in labor they stated that I owe them $40. They would never give me a answer as to why they waited three and a half weeks to inform me of this problem. I could have simply fixed it myself if notified during the move out inspection. They may have saw it as a easy way to get a new floor and keep some extra money knowing I was in a different state and couldn't do anything about it. Whatever it was it was a very bad and un professional thing to do. The staff has always been nice and never had one foul thing to say until then. If I was you wanting to rent from Swansboro Port Realty be very aware of this and how they treated me. Port west court townhouses was where I stayed at. They are very old and outdated and if you do move in take videos and pictures of everything of the home. Be aware they will charge you for normal wear and tear of the old and outdated appliances
